For decades, the city of Portland, Oregon prohibited sprawl in farmland at the periphery, with density and transit within an urban growth boundary – and then confronted a backlash that challenged the system to its core. This one-hour documentary film chronicles the complex challenges of aspiring to be a more sustainable metropolis with a smaller carbon footprint. READ MORE.

Immediately after the film, Futurewise Whatcom and Sustainable Connections will be moderating a panel discussion with some of Whatcom County's forefront land use professionals addressing "What is Livability?" for OUR community, featuring:

  • Paul Schissler, Kulshan Community Land Trust
  • Jean Melious, Whatcom County Planning Commission
  • Darcy Jones, Jones Engineers, Inc
  • Maureen McCarthy, Whatcom Transit Authority

Join us for this great film and stick around to help us answer the question, "What is Livability?" in Bellingham and Whatcom County. Snacks and beverages will be available for purchase from the Bloom counter, so feel free to come hungry right after work!
