The City of Seattle is currently in the process of updating its Climate Action Plan in order to meet its goal of carbon neutrality by 2050. That means Seattle has an incredible opportunity to set a plan and actions toward improving economic opportunity, affordability and self-sufficiency, and public health by building high-performing, transit oriented communities.

Futurewise Brownbag Series on the Seattle Climate Action Plan

Futurewise is partnering with the Seattle Office of Sustainability and the Environment and Seattle Councilmember Mike O’Brien to host four panel brownbag discussions from December 2011 to mid-summer 2012 to dream what’s possible.

Building a Strong, Healthy Economy for Real Results

Watch it on the Seattle Channel

December 14, 12:00-1:30, Seattle City Hall Boards & Commissions Room (L280)
Building businesses that reduce our dependence on oil, coal, and other sources of energy pays a double dividend: we create new regional micro-economic engines while save working families at the pump and on their home utility bills. A panel of local experts will discuss the opportunities of growth without pollution economic model.
Co-Moderators: Councilmembers Tim Burgess and Sally Clark.
Panelists: Patrick Neville of King County Labor Council and BlueGreen Alliance, Brian Geller of the Seattle 2030 District, and Steve Gelb of SustainableWorks.

Upcoming brownbags to be scheduled:

Healthy Communities: Saving Families Money at Home and On-the-Road
Building more homes closer to more jobs and improving street and transit infrastructure to serve more types of users can save families on their medical and transportation bills. A panel of local experts will discuss tangible opportunities to build healthy communities and how to make it happen.

Building Communities for Healthy People
Building neighborhoods where people can walk to the grocery store to buy fruits and vegetables, where children can safely walk to school and playgrounds, and the air and water are clean and fresh can put a smile on our face and extend our lives. A panel of local experts will discuss tangible steps we can take so more people make footprints on sidewalks but the footprint on our natural resources is less.

Leadership for a Healthy Future
Seattle can be a guiding-light to cities around the world about how to do our part to solve our greatest challenges and build a healthier tomorrow. This is our opportunity to build a strong economy, save families money, and create great places to live and play. The brownbag will serve as the unveiling of the first draft of the CAP.
