Futurewise is hiring an intern to build a strong movement that can transform Washington into a greener, more affordable, and equitable place for everyone, regardless of where you live.  The Campaign Events Intern will work with Futurewise staff and volunteers to build a grassroots statewide campaign around the upcoming 2027 legislative session.  They will work primarily virtually to plan and execute key campaign events that will help recruit volunteers, demonstrate support for our bills, and call on our state’s lawmakers to take action to make it easier to build housing, move the state away from fossil fuels and toward public transportation, and conserve our farms, forests and wildlife habitat.

This position is designed to teach the intern the skills needed to work on an active political campaign while providing hands-on experience in passing statewide legislation. Interns will develop their skills and political knowledge through a combination of classroom-style trainings, one-on-one check-ins with the State Organizer, and practice in the remote “field.”

Responsibilities

• Complete an average of 10-15 hrs/week through structured and asynchronous work.  Schedules are flexible.
• Assist State Organizer with planning and executing major campaign events including the campaign kick off meeting, annual Lobby Day, post-session celebration, and any other campaign actions or events as needed. Duties will include, but are not limited to, scheduling lobby meetings with legislators for Lobby Day, recruiting and helping prep guest speakers, and manage logistics such as carpools or event locations.
• Learn basic campaigning skills such as phonebanking, public speaking and more.
• Attend key in-person and virtual campaign events including but not limited to the Kick Off (November or December) and Lobby Day (January or February).
• Weekly check in with State Organizer, and other campaign staff as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

• Have a passion for environmental justice, land use planning, and making the world a better place.
• Have great writing and communication skills.
• Have an interest in learning about statewide politics and policy.
• Be willing to step outside their comfort zone and do activities that may be new to them, like phone banking or running meetings.
• Be able to work independently and manage time effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working on a political campaign or in a similar fast-paced, people-oriented environment.
• Experience coordinating and planning events (political or otherwise).

Hours, pay, timeframe

The Campaign Events Intern will work from October-May for an average of 10-15 hrs/week.  The pay is $22/hr and nonnegotiable.

The work can be done remote with some recommended in-person events like Lobby Day.  If interns are based in the Seattle area, there is the option for more in-person meetings and events. The schedule is flexible.

Interns will be required to provide a personal computer and phone for this work.
