The GreenLink approach was piloted in Bellingham in 2017 and successfully used its unique mapping process to recommend green infrastructure projects. In Port Angeles, we have received enough funding to expand the scope of GreenLink to include development and implementation of recommendations. Phase 1 (July 2018 – February 2022) of the project will develop an integrated network of implementable green infrastructure project recommendations to improve water quality, habitat, and community assets. Phase 2 (March 2022 – March 2023) of the project will support the development and implementation of projects and programs identified in Phase 1.
Beyond a unique mapping strategy to identify priority projects, GreenLink emphasizes deep community engagement. An advisory committee made up of local stakeholders and technical advisers provide guidance throughout the process. We also engage with residents to collect community knowledge about local uses of the watershed and preferences for potential projects.
