Futurewise Legislative Advocacy

As the steward of Washington’s Growth Management Act (GMA), Futurewise advocates with people like you to pass state legislation that reflects our vision for the future. In recent years, Futurewise has passed marquee legislation to update the GMA to fight climate change (HB 1181), promote housing affordability (HB 1220 and HB 1110) and prevent sprawl (SB 5042).

2023 For Our Future Campaign

2023 was the culmination of a 5-year big tent coalition campaign, led by Futurewise, to integrate housing and climate justice into the Washington State Growth Management Act (GMA) and related land use planning and zoning policies. This year’s passage of Missing Middle Housing (HB1110) and Climate Planning (HB1181) will benefit Washington State communities and our planet for generations to come. 2024 Connecting Communities Campaign

In the 2024 legislative session we built on the climate and housing wins of 2023, defended protections for wildlife and farmland in rural areas, and continued to advance the need for more transit-oriented development.
