Position Title: Development and Events Intern

Salary Range: $20/hour, October 2024-May 2025

Position Type: Part-time, non-exempt, expected 15-20 hours/week. This position is a hybrid position based out of our Seattle office. Applicants must be available for in-person meetings in our Seattle office and must be a resident of Washington State.

About Futurewise: For over thirty years, Futurewise has advocated for smart, equitable and sustainable land use policy that promotes vibrant, prosperous communities and protects Washington’s most valuable farms, forests and wildlife habitat. With the state’s Growth Management Act (GMA) as a lens, we use policy development, advocacy, community engagement, data analysis and legal tools to protect farms, forests and water resources, and encourage livable cities through affordable housing, access to transit, and green infrastructure. To achieve these outcomes, our staff of planners, scientists, lawyers, educators and organizers work with every level of government, within every geographic scale, together with hundreds of local organizations and activists to advance community-based solutions to land-use and environmental challenges.

Overview: Futurewise seeks a part-time Development and Events Intern to work alongside our Director of External Affairs and Executive Director in shaping and executing an ambitious fundraising strategy for our 35th anniversary. The primary focus of this role will be event support for our annual event (occurring in May 2025), with secondary responsibilities in annual fund development, major donor stewardship, and grant prospecting and cultivation.

Event Support for Annual Fundraiser

  • Collaborate with Event Planner on vendor and venue coordination
  • Manage event database and event registration
  • Coordinate sponsor solicitations by staff and board and manage sponsor engagement including guest lists and acknowledgment letters
  • Execute invitation mailings and e-blasts
  • Track RSVPs, process payments, and generate acknowledgement letters
  • Update sponsorship materials, track sponsor logos
  • Recruit and manage volunteers
  • Provide day of and on-site logistics including event registration and troubleshooting
  • Coordinate the preparation of all post-event correspondence including thank you notes to sponsors, attendees, donors, volunteers and committee members

Annual fund development

  • Manage mailed fundraising appeals, including pulling donor lists and coordinating with mail house
  • Support end of year fundraising campaign, including pulling donor lists, coordinating solicitations and acknowledgements, and drafting materials for digital campaign
  • Track solicitations and needed follow-up for annual spring match pool
  • Coordinate cultivation opportunities for existing donors

Grants

  • Prospect new grant opportunities for organization
  • Identify cultivation opportunities for existing funders

 

Qualifications

This is a small development department in a small and nimble organization, and it is critical that the Development and Events Intern be willing to jump in and learn quickly.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Dedicated to the goals and mission of Futurewise, with a strong interest in event planning, donor engagement, and advancing a nonprofit’s mission through development. Interest in public policy and nonprofit development preferred.
  • Ability to effectively communicate (both written and verbal communication) complex information and concepts in a clear and concise manner to diverse audiences.
  • Self-motivation, ability to work independently, and ability to prioritize tasks, including ability to hold multiple projects at once and coordinate tasks and track progress.
  • Ability to work in a team setting and successfully coordinate with others to advance tasks.
  • Facility with numbers, including the use of spreadsheets, and attention to detail. Experience with CRMs, (Salsa CRM, Salesforce, Little Green Light, etc.) preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products and the Google Suite. Strong data skills and the ability to learn quickly are preferred.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of donors, contributions, programs, and department procedures.
  • High school diploma is required. A Bachelor’s degree or prior experience with funder research, CRMs, and fundraising is helpful, but not required.
